Regional Development CommitteeRegional Development Committee: inquiry into the management of data risks in Northern Ireland WaterOn the 19 November 2008, the Committee for Regional Development decided to undertake a short inquiry into the management of data risks in Northern Ireland Water Limited. The Committee will inquire into the management of data risks in Northern Ireland Water - whether the risks associated with the shortcomings in Northern Ireland Water’s data are being identified and managed in a way which protects customers and the public purse. Specifically, the inquiry will: a. Identify the processes currently in place, and the timescales for the identification of risks arising from shortcomings in the base data used by Northern Ireland Water (NIW); b. Identify the measures currently in place, and proposed, by NIW to mitigate and address the identified risks; c. Identify the policies and procedures in place to manage the risks associated with the shortcomings in NIW’s base data; d. Identify industry norms and examples of good practice in managing data risks associated with the water industry; e. Critically evaluate:
f. Consider what additional actions, if any, should be taken to protect customers and the public purse; and g. Report to the Northern Ireland Assembly by the end of February 2009. The indicative timescale for this inquiry is as follows:
In the first instance, the Committee will be seeking written and oral evidence from Northern Ireland Water Limited, the Department for Regional Development, the Northern Ireland Authority for Utility Regulation and the Consumer Council Northern Ireland.
