Dr Hendron took the Chair at 2:07 pm.

Mrs Robinson declared that she is now a Member of Parliament at Westminster.

2. Departmental Budget Bids for 2002/03

The Chairman welcomed the Minister and Senior Departmental Officials to the meeting at 2:10 pm after which the Minister outlined the context for the Budget bids for 2002/03 and the serious resourcing pressures facing the Department. This was followed by a question-and-answer session, and the entire proceedings are recorded separately verbatim. The Chairman thanked the Minister and her Officials, and they left the meeting at 3:10 pm.

Ms Hanna left the meeting at 2:25 pm.

Rev R Coulter, Ms Armitage and Mr McFarland joined the meeting at 2:35 pm, 2:43 pm and 3:00 pm respectively.

The Clerk will prepare a draft Committee response to the Departmental Budget bids for consideration at its meeting on Wednesday, 4 July, as replies must be channelled to the Committee for Finance and Personnel by Friday, 6 July 2001 in advance of a co-ordinated Committees' response to the Minister for Finance.

The Chairman reminded members of the informal meeting with Mr Terry Ryan, President of the Children of Ireland Group Inc., at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, 4 July 2001 in the Private Dining Room, Parliament Buildings.

The Committee will next meet on Wednesday, 4 July 2001 in Room 135, Parliament Buildings.

The meeting ended at 3:15 pm.
