Dr Esmond Birnie MLA, Chairman Committee for Employment and Learning Ms Carmel Hanna MLA Dear Re: Consultation Paper - Statutory Backing for Trade Union Learning Representatives The Committee for Employment and Learning debated this document at their meeting on Thursday 24 January 2002. The Committee is broadly in agreement with these Proposals to provide Statutory Rights for Union Learning Representatives. This will ensure they have the same rights to paid time off for their initial training and to carry out their duties as those enjoyed by shop stewards and other union representatives, at workplaces where a union is recognised for collective bargaining purposes.
