1. Chairman's Opening Remarks

On behalf of the Committee, the Chairman wished Ms Hanna and Mrs Robinson, who were absent due to illness, a speedy recovery. The Chairman will send each a letter from the Committee.

2. Minutes of the Last Meeting

The minutes of the last meeting were agreed.

3. Matters Arising

The Department has replied to the outstanding questions from the last Committee meeting on 9 February.

4. Presentation by the Northern HSSB

Panel Members: Mr Stuart MacDonnell, Chief Executive
Mrs Mary Wilmot, Director of Social Services
Dr David Johnston, Deputy Medical Director

The Chairman welcomed the panel to the meeting at 2.15 p.m. and they then gave a brief presentation, followed by a question-and-answer session, which is summarized in Annex A. The Chairman thanked the officials, and they left the meeting at 3.15 p.m.

5. Update by Departmental Officials

The Chairman welcomed the panel to the meeting at 3.20 p.m. and they then gave a brief presentation, followed by a question-and-answer session, which is summarized in Annex B. The Chairman thanked the officials, and they left the meeting at 4.15 p.m.

6. AOB

Agreed: The Chairman will write to Minister de Brún to express the Committee's concern about the recently highlighted health warning over Trilucent breast implants.
Agreed: The Chairman will write to Minister de Brún to highlight the Committee's concern about the problem in relation to the recruitment and retention of midwives in Northern Ireland, and asking what action she intends to take to try to remedy the situation.

The next meeting will be at 2.00 p.m. on Wednesday 14 June in Room 135, Parliament Buildings.
