The meeting opened, in private, at 11.06am
1. Chairperson's business
i. The Chairperson advised that he had received some further details from the Department on the proposed visit to the US.
Dr McDonnell joined the meeting at 11.08am
ii. The Chairperson reported on a letter he had received from the Chair of the Education Committee.
iii. The Chairperson advised that a letter had been received from Unison requesting an opportunity to speak to the Committee on Strategy 2010.
Agreed - that Unison should be invited to give evidence to the Committee as part of the Strategy 2010 Inquiry.
iv. The Chairperson reported that a late submission on the Strategy 2010 Inquiry had been received from the Equality Commission.
Agreed - that the late submission should be accepted.

Apologies were received from Dr D O'Hagan, Mr G Campbell, Ms J Morrice and Mr D Shipley Dalton.

The minutes of the last meeting were agreed.

There were no matters arising.
Top5. Any other business
i. The Committee wished to express their appreciation at the effort made by the Committee Office staff in organising Committee meetings over the summer recess.
ii. The Chairperson emphasised the need for members' attendance at the next Committee meeting to ensure that the Committee remains quorate.
iii. The Chairperson reminded members that the Department's New TSN Action Plan was due to be discussed at the next Committee meeting and that members should submit any comments to the Committee Clerk prior to the meeting.

Professor Shannon, Dr Apsley and Mr Gibson gave evidence, in public, to the Committee on its inquiry into Strategy 2010.
Mr Clyde joined the meeting at 11.38am
Mr Neeson left the meeting at 12.00noon

Mr Taylor and Mr MacLaughlin gave evidence, in public, to the Committee on its inquiry into Strategy 2010.
