The POLIS (Parliamentary On Line Indexing Service) database is a comprehensive bibliography and index to all the proceedings and publications of both Houses of Parliament, the Welsh Assembly and the Northern Ireland Assembly. The database is maintained by the House of Commons Library Staff and records date back to the start of the Labour government in May 1997. It does not contain the full text of documents.

The POLIS database can be searched using a simple form and it can be used to do the following:

  • search for parliamentary proceedings, debates, questions, papers and legislation from session 97/98 to date;
  • link directly to the full text of Commons Hansard (from session 01/02 to date);
  • search for European legislative proposals and for other selected material from the European Parliament;
  • browse through the House of Commons Library's catalogue of papers deposited by Ministers, periodical articles and Library publications.

The POLIS Database can be accessed at www.polis.parliament.uk/

Please Note:

To limit your search results to Northern Ireland Assembly material only, click on the Fields button on the POLIS searchscreen. Then click on the Legislature checkbox. This will insert a new field called Legislature into your searchscreen. Type in Northern Ireland Assembly and your search will be specific to Northern Ireland Assembly material.
