2.1 Statement - Public Expenditure: 2008 Strategic Stocktake

The Minister of Finance and Personnel, Mr Nigel Dodds, made a statement to the Assembly on public expenditure with respect to the 2008 strategic stocktake, following which he replied to questions.

2.2 Consideration Stage - Financial Assistance Bill (NIA 4/08)

The First Minister, Rt Hon Peter Robinson, moved that the Consideration Stage of the Financial Assistance Bill be agreed.

11 amendments were tabled to the Bill plus a notice of intention to vote against ‘Clause 2 stand part’.

Debate ensued.

4.1 Motion - Gaza Crisis

Proposed: That this Assembly condemns the appalling loss of life and scale of injuries among the civilian population in Gaza; calls on those responsible for all attacks involving civilian casualties to cease; calls for humanitarian aid organisations to have the freedom of movement to deliver their aid unhindered to the people of Gaza; and further calls for an immediate ceasefire and withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and for the international community to mobilize to secure these objectives.

4.2 Amendment

Proposed: Leave out all after ‘Assembly’ and insert:

‘regrets the loss of life amongst the civilian populations in the ongoing conflict in Gaza and Israel; calls on the international community to use every influence to establish a verifiable ceasefire, bringing an end to all attacks on civilians in Gaza and Israel; and urges the restarting of the Middle East peace process, with the aim of delivering peace and security for Israel and an independent, democratic, and viable Palestinian state.’
