Members observed two minutes’ silence.

2. Matters of the Day - Murder in Derry/Londonderry

2.1 Mr Gregory Campbell made a statement, under Standing Order 23A, in relation to a murder in Derry/Londonderry. A number of other Members were called to speak on the matter.

3. Executive Committee Business
3.1 Statement - North-South Ministerial Council Education Sectoral meeting

The Minister of Education, Ms Caitríona Ruane, made a statement to the Assembly regarding the North-South Ministerial Council Education sectoral meeting, following which she replied to questions.

The Deputy Speaker (Mr McClarty) in the chair.

3.2 Statement - North-South Ministerial Council Health and Food Safety Sectoral meeting

The Minister of Health, Social Services and Public Safety, Mr Michael McGimpsey, made a statement to the Assembly regarding the North-South Ministerial Council Health and Food Safety sectoral meeting, following which he replied to questions.

3.3 Statement - June Monitoring Outcome

The Minister of Finance and Personnel, Mr Nigel Dodds, made a statement to the Assembly regarding the June Monitoring outcome, following which he replied to questions.

The sitting was suspended at 12.52 pm.

The sitting resumed at 2.00 pm with the Deputy Speaker (Mr Dallat) in the chair.

4. Executive Committee Business (cont’d)
4.1 Final Stage - Budget (No. 2) Bill (NIA 18/07)

The Minister of Finance and Personnel, Mr Nigel Dodds, moved that the Final Stage of the Budget (No. 2) Bill (NIA 18/07) be agreed.

NIA Bill (18/07) passed Final Stage with cross-community support (Division No. 1).

4.2 Final Stage - Child Maintenance Bill (NIA 17/07)

The Minister for Social Development, Ms Margaret Ritchie, moved that the Final Stage of the Child Maintenance Bill (NIA 17/07) be agreed.

NIA Bill (17/07) passed Final Stage.

5. Committee Business
5.1 Motion - Public Inquiry into the Maureen McGinley Case

Proposed: That this Assembly expresses concern that investigations by the Western Health and Social Care Trust and the Coroner’s Service have failed to provide a satisfactory explanation of the circumstances in which the late Mrs Maureen McGinley received a number of fractures following her death; commends the family of Mrs Maureen McGinley for their campaign in highlighting the issue; and calls on the Minister of Health, Social Services and Public Safety to initiate, as a matter of urgency, a full, independent and time-bound public inquiry.

6. Private Members’ Business
6.1 Motion - Irish Medium Primary School

A valid Petition of Concern was presented in relation to this motion under Standing Order 27. The vote on the motion was therefore taken on a cross-community basis.

Proposed: That this Assembly expresses concern at the refusal by the Minister of Education to consider proposals for new Controlled, Maintained and Integrated schools, whilst approving a plan for a new Irish Medium Primary School in Derry/Londonderry, despite advice from officials in the Department that there was already adequate capacity in this sector.
