The Assembly met at 10.30 am, the Speaker in the Chair
1. Personal Prayer or Meditation
Members observed two minutes’ silence.
2. The Speaker’s Business
2.1 The Speaker informed Members that he had received notice from the nominating officer of Sinn Féin that Mr Gerry McHugh had been dismissed as deputy Chairperson of the Committee on Standards and Privileges.
2.2 The Speaker also informed Members that Mr Willie Clarke had been nominated to serve as deputy Chairperson and that Mr Clarke had informed the Speaker that he was willing to take up the post. The Speaker confirmed Mr Clarke as deputy Chairperson of the Committee on Standards and Privileges.
3. Executive Committee Business
3.1 Statement - North-South Ministerial Council - Transport Sectoral Meeting
Mr Conor Murphy, Minister for Regional Development, made a statement to the Assembly regarding the North-South Ministerial Council transport sectoral meeting, following which he replied to questions.
3.2 Statement - Budget 2008-2011
The Rt Hon Peter Robinson, Minister of Finance and Personnel, made a statement to the Assembly regarding the Budget 2008-2011, following which he replied to questions.

The sitting was suspended at 12.52 pm
The sitting resumed at 2.00 pm with the Deputy Speaker (Mr Molloy) in the chair.
4. Private Members’ Business
4.1 Motion - Public Transport Funding
Proposed: That this Assembly notes that public transport is currently underfunded compared to other regions; acknowledges that public transport could reduce traffic congestion and carbon emissions, and play a key role in reducing poverty and social exclusion; and calls on the Minister for Regional Development to redress the imbalance in public transport and roads spending.

4.2 Amendment
Proposed: Leave out all after ‘exclusion’ and insert:
‘; further notes that due to the lack of public transport services across rural areas, for many people cars are the only means of transport; and calls on the Minister for Regional Development to seek increased investment for improving both public transport and safety on rural roads.’

The Question being put, the Motion, as amended, was carried without division.
4.3 Motion - Apprenticeships
Proposed:That this Assembly expresses concern over the decreasing number of apprenticeships which are available in Northern Ireland’s manufacturing industries and calls on the Department for Employment and Learning to address the current decline and to promote the provision and facilitation of apprenticeships.

The Question being put, the Motion was carried without division.
5. Adjournment
Mr Alex Attwood spoke on the 2005 collapse of Trivirix and the recovery of state funds.
