Explanatory Notes re Salaries and Allowances

Salaries

Basic Salaries

1. A Member’s basic salary in 2009-2010 was £43,101.00 per annum.

2. Members who received a salary as an MP had their Members’ salaries reduced by two thirds. Members of the House of Lords did not receive a salary from the House of Lords so their Assembly salaries were not reduced.

3. Salaries of Members who ceased to be a Member during the year, either through resignation or ill-health retirement, were paid on a pro-rata basis. Salaries for new Members were paid from the date on which the Roll of Members was signed.

Office Holders Allowance

4. The full range of Office holders’ allowances were paid from 1 April 2009 to 31 March 2010.
