1981 - Left University, took up post in Craigavon Area Hospital Psychiatric Unit as an occupational therapist.
1987 - Took up new post to community as Officer in Charge of a day centre (Social Services) in Banbridge.
1993 New post as a Day Care Manager of Meadows Rehabilitation Centre, Portadown.

political career:

May 1993 Ist elected to Craigavon Borough - served on all committees, was chair of Technical Services and Environmental Services.
May 1997 Re elected to Craigavon Borough.
1999 - 2000 First Nationalist Mayor of Craigavon.
Was chair of Craigavon District Policing Partnership for two years. Also served as vice-chair of Craigavon Rural Development Co.
Elected to SDLP General Council 2001 - 2002.
November 2003 Elected to Northern Ireland Assembly.

Involved in a number of community groups both urban and rural.
Founder member of Tyrone, Armagh, Dungannon and Antrim (T.A.D.A.) Rural Support Network, continue to serve as member of the management committee.
Interested in a wide range of subjects but primarily in people work to enable people to have a better quality of life.
Hobbies include gardening, reading and walking.
