Disqualify members of the Northern Ireland Assembly for being a councillor.
BE IT ENACTED by being passed by the Northern Ireland Assembly and assented to by Her Majesty as follows:
Disqualification
1. -(1) Subject to subsection (2), a person shall be disqualified for being a councillor if that person is a member of the Northern Ireland Assembly.
(2) The disqualification in subsection (1) shall take effect at the end of 60 days after a person takes his or her seat as a member of the Assembly.
Commencement
2. Section 1 comes into operation on the day of the first local general election to take place after Royal Assent.
Interpretation
3. In this Act -
“Councillor” has the same meaning as in the Local Government Act (Northern Ireland) 1972;
“Local general election” has the same meaning as in the Electoral Law Act (Northern Ireland) 1962.
Short Title
4. This Act may be cited as the Local Government (Disqualification) Act (Northern Ireland) 2010.
