Disqualify members of the Northern Ireland Assembly from being a councillor
BE IT ENACTED by being passed by the Northern Ireland Assembly and assented to by Her Majesty as follows:
Disqualification
1. -(1) A person shall be disqualified for being a councillor if that person is a member of the Northern Ireland Assembly.
(2) The disqualification in subsection (1) shall take effect at the end of 60 days after a person takes his or her seat as a member of the Assembly.
Commencement
2. Section 1 comes into operation on the day of the first local general election to take place after Royal Assent.
Interpretation
3. In this Act -
“Councillor” and “local government” have the same meaning as in the Local Government Act ( Northern Ireland) 1972;
“Local general election” has the same meaning as in the Electoral Law Act ( Northern Ireland) 1962.
Short Title
4. This Act may be cited as the Local Government (Disqualification) Act ( Northern Ireland) 2010.
