COMMITTEE TO GIVE INITIAL RESPONSE TO DEPARTMENT’S ROAD SAFETY STRATEGY

The Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for the Environment is holding a meeting at 10.00am on Thursday 29 April in the Senate, Parliament Buildings when it will receive an update from Edwin Poots, MLA Minister for the Environment on the draft Road Safety Strategy. The Committee will give its initial thoughts on the initiatives proposed in the Strategy.

The Committee will also receive a presentation from PSNI on its response to the Strategy.

Background

The Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for the Environment welcomed the Minister for Environment’s Road Safety Strategy consultation and has been taking evidence and gathering views on the initiatives from a wide range of stakeholders so that it will be in an informed position to provide constructive feedback at the end of the Consultation.

The Committee is committed to ensuring this strategy significantly reduces fatalities and casualties on our roads. Once the Committee agrees its position it will produce a report to the Department on the Strategy.
