The meeting opened at 12.55pm in closed session.

  1. Briefing from Assembly Research and Library Services Officials on Rising Energy Prices.

Officials joined the meeting at 12.57pm.

Assembly Research and Library Services Officials Aidan Stennett and Meadhbh McCann briefed the Committee on Rising Energy Prices. Key issues discussed included, fuel poverty, energy efficiency, and windfall tax.

Officials left the meeting at 1.07pm.

  1. Committee Motion on Rising Energy Prices

Members considered a draft covering letter and relevant information for issue to all MLA’s. Members also considered the need for a press release.

Agreed: Covering letter and accompanying information were agreed.
Agreed: To issue a press release

The meeting moved to public session at 1.25pm.

  1. Draft Programme for Visit to Magee Campus and Waterside Credit Union.

Members considered a draft programme for the Committee visit to Magee Campus and the Waterside Credit Union.

Agreed: The draft programme was agreed.

  1. Any Other Business – Carried Forward from 19 June 2008

The Clerk updated members on how the Committee might respond to the NIAUR Sustainability Consultation Document.

Members noted a request from the Northern Ireland Tourist Board to some minor drafting changes to their draft Corporate Plan.

Agreed: That the Northern Ireland Tourist Board could make the changes requested and that they could write directly to other relevant Assembly Committees.

Members noted two recent press articles on the food promotion and health and safety laws.

Members noted a letter from the Clerk of the Committee for the Environment regarding criminal history information.

Members noted a letter from the DALO regarding the Consumer Credit Act 2006.

Members noted a letter from the Climate Change Coalition.

The Chairperson updated members on his meeting with the deputy Chairperson and the new Minister.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday, 3 July at 10.30am in Room 21, Parliament Buildings

The Chairperson adjourned the meeting at 1.39pm.
