2. Joint meeting with the Committee for Education and Lifelong Learning from the National Assembly for Wales

The Chairman welcomed Committee members from the National Assembly for Wales to Parliament Buildings. The Chairman outlined that he and the Deputy Chairman would brief the Committee from the National Assembly for Wales on:

• the make-up, role and powers of the Committee for Higher and Further Education, Training and Employment.

• the key recommendations from the Committee’s Inquiry into Student Finance in Northern Ireland; and

• the emerging findings from the current Inquiry into ‘Education and Training for Industry.’

The Deputy Chairman, Mr Carrick, then briefed members on Committee’s remit and the background to the current Inquiry into ‘Education and Training for Industry.’ Following this briefing, members debated the implications of the current proposals on Student Finance.
