AGRICULTURE COMMITTEE GETS TO THE CORE OF THE BRAMLEY

The Committee for Agriculture and Rural Development visited the Bramley Bicentenary celebrations at the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute in Loughgall on Friday 8 May 2009. The Committee will hear presentations from the Northern Ireland Fruit Growers Association and the Fruit Industry Federation on the challenges facing the industry.

Dr. William McCrea MP MLA, Chairperson of the Committee, said ahead of the event: “The Committee recognises the importance of this anniversary, not only in terms of local pride in the market success of the Bramley, but also in supporting a significant employer within County Armagh in these times of economic crisis. The rich history of the ‘Orchard County’ is one of Northern Ireland’s most cherished features and the Committee are committed to ensuring that this home-grown industry goes from strength to strength over the coming years”.
