Parliament Buildings A Hive Of Activity Click here to subscribe to the RSS

More than 15 school visits, suicide prevention training, the Youth Achievers Ball, a seminar on discrimination against women and the launch of a survey on childcare are just some of the things happening here at Parliament Buildings this week.

A range of schools including primary, post primary and further education will all take part in Assembly education programmes this week. The programme includes talks by MLAs along with a tour and information tailored especially for their age group. Schools taking part in these programmes come away from Parliament Buildings with a better understanding of how the Assembly works.

Tonight sees The Northern Ireland Assembly and Business Trust hold a suicide prevention training evening. The Trust - made up of business leaders and MLAs - will take part in the training aimed at giving them tools to spot those at risk of suicide and get the right support.

The Annual Young Achievers Ball will take place on Saturday. This event, now in its third year, celebrates young people who have overcome personal difficulties and now work to make their communities a better place to live.

Discrimination against women will be the topic at a seminar on Friday run by CEDAW (the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women) and attended by MLAs from all parties.

Finally, a festive offering: the Assembly Christmas tree will be put up on the Great Hall on Saturday.
