COMMITTEE QUESTIONS OFFICIALS ON CIVIL SERVICE DECENTRALISATION PLANS

Date 14 December 2006

PN06/06

An Assembly Sub-Group today called officials from the Department of Finance and Personnel (DFP) to Parliament Buildings to explain the Government’s plans to rationalise the Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) estate under Workplace 2010.

Sub-Group members questioned the Department on its decision to transfer ownership of NICS properties to a Private Sector Partner (PSP), the impact of the Workplace 2010 Programme on the future location of public sector jobs, and the implications for existing and future public service staff and for local business in Northern Ireland.

Earlier, members heard views from the Northern Ireland Public Service Alliance (NIPSA), which represents all civil service staff who are directly affected by Workplace 2010.
