COMMITTEE CONCLUDES WORK UNTIL AFTER ELECTION

The Committee on the Programme For Government met today for the last time before the forthcoming election. The Committee’s remit has been to identify the priorities for a new Executive and make preparations for restoration.

At today’s meeting, the Committee discussed priorities in relation to victims’ and survivors’ issues and again considered the Lifetime Opportunities Strategy which sets out the Government’s plans for tackling poverty in Northern Ireland.

Before concluding business, the Committee discussed the issues which had been addressed during November, December and January and identified a number of areas on which further work would be required. The Committee expects to meet again after the election.

Jim Wells MLA, Chairperson of the Committee said “The Committee and its six sub-groups have carried out very detailed and necessary work over the last three months and significant progress has been made in preparing the way for restoration and on agreeing priorities for a restored Executive."
