SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE VISITS STRABANE

As part of the Committee for Social Development’s ongoing inquiry into Town Centre Regeneration, the Committee yesterday visited Strabane District Council. The Committee saw the progression of regeneration projects in Strabane and reviewed the designs and locations of the iconic Strabane Bridge Project.

The Committee also held one of its regular public meetings in the offices of Strabane District Council. The Committee heard briefings on Welfare Reform and on the progress of Local Housing Allowance.

Committee Chairperson, Mr. David Simpson, MLA said, “The Committee is pleased to be able to visit Strabane and review the progress made by Strabane 2000 in Town Centre Regeneration. The Strabane Bridge Project is an impressive undertaking which will enhance the local area”

Mr. Simpson continued, “The Committee is also pleased to be holding its regular meetings outside of Parliament Buildings. These visits give the Committee the opportunity to explain its work; encourage engagement with the wider public and highlight the important scrutiny role of the Committee for Social Development.”
