Northern Ireland Economic Reform Group Report on Corporation Tax

Joint letter to all MLAs from Chairperson of the Committee for Enterprise, Trade and Investment and the Chairperson of the Committee for Finance and Personnel

07 May 2010
TO ALL MLAS
Co-sponsored Motion from the Committee for Finance and Personnel and the Committee for Enterprise, Trade and Investment
‘NI Economic Reform Group Report on Corporation Tax’ – Tuesday 11 May 2010

1. The following joint Committee motion is scheduled for debate in the Assembly on Tuesday 11 May 2010:

‘That this Assembly notes the report from the Northern Ireland Economic Reform Group on the case for a reduced rate of corporation tax in Northern Ireland’.

2. The case for a reduced rate of corporation tax here was considered in the 2007 Varney Review of tax policy in NI. In February 2010 the Economic Reform Group published its own report arguing the case for a lower rate of corporation tax here. Both committees received evidence from the Economic Reform Group on its report in March 2010 and this motion will offer all Members the opportunity to debate the report recommendations.

3. To assist Members in preparing for the debate, both committees are making available papers, correspondence and other background information relevant to the motion. These are available on the Committee for Finance and Personnel website at this link. Recent press cuttings on this issue are attached for information.

4. A full copy of these papers, including recent press cuttings, have also been deposited in the Assembly Library.

Yours sincerely

Jennifer McCann MLA, Chairperson, Committee for Finance and Personnel
Alban Maginness MLA, Chairperson, Committee for Enterprise, Trade & Investment
