The meeting opened, in private, at 11.00am

1. Restructuring DETI

1.1 A general discussion took place on the question of whether or not there should be a single development agency and on detailed issues such as the status of any new body. It was agreed that the Committee would discuss the matter further at a meeting on Tuesday 28 November.

2. Chairperson's business

2.1 The Deputy Chairperson reported on the meeting with Bitor Europe on Wednesday 15 November. The Company will address the Committee during its Energy Inquiry.

The meeting suspended at 11:37am.

The meeting resumed at 1:15pm.

3.1 The minutes of 15 November were agreed.

4. Matters arising

4.1 Meeting with Mary O'Rourke TD- the make-up of the delegation and the agenda items were agreed.

Agreed - that the Committee Clerk would contact the Minister's Office to establish if there were other areas that the Minister wished to have raised .

4.2 Reply from Bruce Robinson (1 November)

Agreed - that the Committee Office would write to the Department seeking more information on the Northern Ireland Economic Research Council including how it is funded.

4.3 Energy Inquiry - the Terms of Reference for the Inquiry were issued to members.

5. Any other business

5.1 Future work programme -

Agreed - that the Committee should visit the IDA, Enterprise Ireland, Scottish Enterprise and the Welsh Development Agency in January. It was suggested that the visit to Scotland should be an overnight stay and that the Committee should visit the relevant committee in the Scottish Parliament.

5.2 Northern Ireland Tourist Board - Dr McDonnell suggested Tourism as a future inquiry.

6. Date of next meeting

6.1 The next meeting of the Committee will take place on Tuesday 28 November in Room 144 at 10am.
