MINUTES OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE SIXTIETH MEETING OF THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE IN ROOM 135, PARLIAMENT BUILDINGS ON TUESDAY 25 SEPTEMBER 2001

The Committee met at 11 .20 a.m. in private session.

  1. Minutes of the Meeting of 18 September 2001

  2. The minutes of the meeting of 18 September 2001 were agreed.

    Mr Gallagher joined the meeting at 11. 30 a.m. and Ms Lewsley and Mrs Bell joined the meeting at 11. 40 a.m.

  3. Draft Report on the Review of Post-Primary Education

  1. The Committee considered the second draft of the Report on the Review of Post-
  2. Primary Education which included a number of amendments to the wording and additional sections which had been proposed at a previous meeting. Members considered the draft section by section and agreed the changes and additions.

  3. A number proposed amendments to the report had been tabled by a member of the Committee to the Clerk and details had been circulated prior to the meeting. In the member's absence the Committee agreed that the proposed amendments should be held for consideration until the member was available to table and discuss them.
  4. A paper outlining draft principles and recommendations was circulated at the meeting. The Committee agreed to accept, subject to some minor amendments, the principles and recommendations and include them in the report.
  5. The Committee agreed that the Clerk should check the procedures and timescales for printing and publishing the Report.

Mrs Bell and Ms Lewsley left the meeting at 12. 15 p.m.

  1. Date and time of next meeting

The Committee agreed that a meeting to progress the draft report further should be arranged as soon as possible. The next meeting of the Committee will take place on Thursday 27 September at 10.15 a.m. in Room 135 Parliament Buildings.

The meeting closed at 12.40 p.m.
