2. Chairperson's Business

The Deputy Chairperson opened the meeting thanking Mr Beggs for taking the Chair at last weeks meeting.

3. Approval of draft minutes of previous proceedings

The minutes were agreed and signed.

4. Matters Arising

The Committee finalised its response on the Equality Commission (Time Limits) Regulations consultation document. Outstanding points detailed below:

The Committee agreed that it could neither support nor oppose this proposal at this time.

The Committee agreed to conditionally support this proposal as re-worded.

The Committee agreed that its response should not be confidential.

5. Correspondence

The Committee noted the reply by First Minister and Deputy First Minister to the question raised by Mr Beggs at the Committee meeting, 20th September 2000, on Emergency Planning.

6. Evidence from Officials of the Victims Unit

Evidence on the Victims Unit was taken from Mr Chris Stewart, Mr Fergus Devitt, and Mr Graham Thompson of the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister.

2:50pm Mr Murphy and Mr McMenamin left the meeting.
3:18pm Mr McMenamin rejoined the meeting.
3:28pm Mr Cobain left the meeting.
3:30pm Mr Maskey and Mrs Bell left the meeting.

7. Evidence from Officials on the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister Budget

Evidence on the OFMDFM Budget was taken from Mr Tony McCusker, Mr Terry Smyth, and Mr Aubrey Playfair of the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister.

3:35pm Mr Gibson, left the Chair
3:35pm Mr Beggs took the Chair, as agreed at the Committee meeting on 4th October.
3:39pm Mr Gibson, returned to the Chair and Mr Ervine left the meeting.
3:45pm Mr Ervine rejoined the meeting.
3:47pm Mr Cobain rejoined the meeting.
3:50pm Mr Cobain left the meeting.
3:55pm Dr Birnie left the meeting.

8. Any other business

The Chair stated as a result of insufficient time that if members wished to have any remaining questions put to the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister on the Victims Unit and the Budget, they should submit them to the Clerk by Monday 16th October.

9. Date and time of next meeting

It was agreed that the Committee would next meet on Wednesday, 18th October at 2:30pm in Room 144, Parliament Buildings.
