PRESS RELEASE22 September 2009AGR 02/09/10European Parliament Is Key To Success Of Northern Ireland's AgricultureMeetings with the European Commissioner for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs and the European Parliament’s Agriculture Committee will help Northern Ireland’s agriculture sector. That’s the message from the Northern Ireland Assembly’s Committee for Agriculture and Rural Development as they prepare for a three day visit to Brussels. The visit, which will help the Committee to better understand the structures and processes within the European Parliament, will enable the Committee to further develop its relationship with the Parliament’s decision makers. Speaking in advance of the study visit, the Chair of the Committee, Mr Ian Paisley Jnr, said: “The aim of this visit is to help the Committee to engage on EU issues affecting the agricultural sector at a much earlier stage. This will help the Committee to represent its own views on policy matters and, where appropriate, to provide support to departmental objectives. “The Committee is looking forward to meeting our European colleagues and discussing the key matters affecting our agricultural industry with senior European officials.” ENDS Notes to Editors The Chairperson was speaking following a meeting held in the Room 152 in Parliament Buildings.
