ASSEMBLY TO MARK POLISH PRESIDENT’S DEATH

The Northern Ireland Assembly will hold a Memorial Service for the President of the Republic of Poland Lech Kaczyński on Saturday 17 April 2010 at 3pm.

The Service, which will be held in Parliament Buildings, will be open to the public and emphasises the close relationship between the people of Northern Ireland and the people of Poland.

Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly, Mr William Hay MLA said: “Over the last decade, many Polish people have made their home in Northern Ireland and have contributed greatly to our society and economy. As a mark of respect to our Polish neighbours and friends as well as to show our profound sympathy to the Government of Poland, we felt that it was only fitting to hold such a Memorial Service.

“This Service will allow local people and politicians a way of demonstrating their respect and understanding for Poland and its people.

“We welcome all those who wish to attend this Service in Parliament Buildings.”

Members of the public wishing to attend the Service are encouraged to contact the Assembly by email memorialservice@niassembly.gov.uk or telephone 028 9052 0321 or 028 9052 1785 if they are going to attend the Service.
